Posted by Ardemco on 26th Mar 2024
Spring is upon us and it’s time to start thinking de-winterizing your rig and planning those summer trips.
Boats and RV’s are subject to a lot of winter wear and tear especially when stored outside. From water and snow damage to rodents enjoying a cozy winter nest, you never know what may have wrecked havoc until you do some poking around.
Here’s your checklist of things to review before you head out onto your next adventure!
Check your tires
This means not only checking the air pressure, but also checking for cracks in the sidewalls. It’s also a good time to take a look at the tread wear.Uneven tread wear is often indicative of another, potentially more serious issue.
Exterior Walk-Around
Look for signs of damage that may have occurred over the winter months. Inspect the weatherstripping around windows and doors.Replace any sealant that looks like it’s cracked or peeling.
If your RV was stored outdoors, take a look at the roof for potential leaks and water damage.
Batteries & Generator
Make sure your batteries are charged.
Check the oil levels in your generator before starting it up and check the exhaust system for any potential damage.
Follow manufacturer instructions and recommendations for each.
Water System
Now’s the time to flush out the antifreeze that you put in last Fall. It’s also a good time to check for leaks.Follow your manufacturer instructions here as well.
Propane Tanks
Make sure the tanks are securely fastened and that the hoses are tightly fitted.Refill if necessary.
While you’re at it, make sure the propane appliances fire up too.
Safety Devices
Just like at home, periodically inspect smoke, CO2 and LP detectors, plus your fire extinguisher.
